National Eisteddfod, Ebbw Vale
Annual WEA Lecture, 4th August, 2.00-3.00pm
"Paul Robeson, Aneurin Bevan
and the 1958 Eisteddfod in Ebbw Vale”

This years' National Eisteddfod Annual WEA Lecture will be given by Professor J Beverley Smith, the Sir John Williams Professor of Welsh History in Aberystwyth University from 1985 -1996. He was present at the 1958 Eisteddfod and will provide recollections of the event. We are also delighted to announce that Paul Robeson’s granddaughter, Susan Robeson will be present and will socialise with people after the lecture in the Sbardun Pavilion from 3pm - 4pm. Translation facilities will be available for the lecture and the informal session.

Traddodir y ddarlith gan Yr Athro J. Beverley Smith, Athro Syr John Williams Hanes Cymru ym Mhrifysgol Aberystwyth rhwng 1985 a 1996. Bu’n bresennol yn Eisteddfod Glyn Ebwy ym 1958 a bydd e’n rhannu ei atgofion o’r digwyddiad. Hefyd rydym yn falch iawn y bydd wyres Paul Robeson, Susan Robeson, yn bresennol a bydd hi’n cymdeithasu ar ôl y ddarlith a hynny ym Mhafiliwn Sbardun rhwng 3 a 4 o’r gloch. Bydd offer cyfieithu ar gael.

The Workers' Educational Association
(WEA) is a voluntary movement for
lifelong learning.

Our objective is the creation of an educated democracy in which participation in public affairs, and the knowledge that it requires, are widely spread throughout the community.

The WEA South Wales is democratically accountable to its members and federated educational and workers organisations. It is inclusive, unsectarian and non party political, and wholly concerned with promoting lifelong learning in south Wales.

The WEA South Wales Council is the governing body of the Association and is elected at the Annual General Meeting. To view our Council members page, click here.
